A man in his 80s who killed a debtor for not paying a large amount of debt and even injured the debtor's son was sentenced to heavy punishment.

The Seoul Central District Court sentenced a man in his 80s, identified only by his surname Choi, to 18 years in prison and a fine of 3 million won today (7th).

The court criticized that even if there was anger over the debt relationship, the act of stabbing and killing the victim's vital point could not be explained for any reason.

However, he added that Choi is old and that he also considered turning himself in to the police immediately after the crime.

In May, Choi was arrested and charged with attempting to kill A in an elevator and kill A's 20-something son next to him after visiting an apartment in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where a woman in her 50s lives.

Mr. Choi claimed that after Mr. A borrowed as much as 4 billion won, he urged him to pay off his debt since 2019, but he did not return the money.
