Yes, it was around 4:30 a.m. today (8th) that a fishing boat was reported to be sinking in the sea about 24 kilometers northwest of Biyangdo Island, Jeju.The ship in the
accident was a 129-ton Busan-registered Venus ship, with a total of 27 people on board.
Another fishing boat passing by rescued 15 people.
Among them, two Koreans were taken to the hospital unconscious, but eventually died.
The other 12 are still missing.
Of the 27 crew members on board, 16 were Koreans, and the remaining 11 were identified as Indonesians.The
accident fishing boat reportedly sank after transferring the catch to the main line of the fleet ship.
At the time, there were two people in the cabin and the other 25 were on deck to move the catch, but they were reportedly not wearing life vests.The fishing boat in the
accident left Seogwipo Port at around 11:50 a.m. yesterday.
The Korea Coast Guard launched the Central Rescue Headquarters to search and rescue the scene.
The head of the Jeju Provincial Coast Guard is also in charge of the search operation on the spot in a mobile boat.
The Jeju Coast Guard has deployed 18 ships and five aircraft to search for missing people.The Navy of
also deployed four ships and two aircraft to the scene, and police, fire aircraft, and eight civilian fishing boats are also participating in the search.
President Yoon Suk Yeol issued an emergency order from the Korea Coast Guard to make every effort to search and rescue lives by mobilizing all available resources and to pay attention to the safety of rescuers.
