Jeju Island Operates Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Related to Fishing Boat Accidents

In connection with the sinking of a fishing boat in the sea of Jeju, Jeju Island has launched a disaster safety countermeasure headquarters to respond quickly.

Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon presided over a countermeasure meeting this morning (8th) and ordered that all available personnel be immediately dispatched to proceed with lifesaving as the top priority.

Jeju Island dispatched an emergency medical team to the site and cooperated with nearby hospitals to transfer rescuers and establish a treatment system.

In addition, two fishing leaders were dispatched to the area of the accident to search for missing people.

In Hallim Port, a situation room was set up to provide one-on-one support to families of missing people.

Earlier this morning, at around 4:30 a.m., the 129-ton Busan-registered Venus, carrying 27 sailors, sank 24 kilometers northwest of Biyangdo Island, killing two of the 15 rescued and missing 12.
