Lead was detected 905 times the domestic standard in bracelets sold on Chinese online platforms.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it examined the safety of 176 products, including jewelry and cosmetics sold by AliExpress, Temu, and Xuin, and found that 15 products contained heavy metals and phthalates such as lead and cadmium that exceeded domestic standards.

Eight kinds of bracelets, earrings and necklaces sold by Ali and Shein have found harmful substances that far exceed the domestic standard, especially in bracelets, the lead content exceeded the domestic standard 905 times, and in earrings, the cadmium exceeded 474 times.

Among cosmetics, phthalates were detected in two highlighters sold by Ali exceeding the domestic standard by 14.9 times, and three lip balms contained cadmium that exceeded the domestic standard by up to 11.4 times.
