"South Korea failed to win a new ship order for Australia...Compressed to Japan and Germany"

The Australian government's new ship order candidate, which is being introduced by the Australian government, has been narrowed down to Japan and Germany, Kyodo News reported, citing Australian public broadcaster ABC.

Of the four countries that participated in the weeks ago, South Korea and Spain were excluded from the candidate list.

In February, the Australian government selected four countries, South Korea, Japan, Germany, and Spain, as the first candidates for the new ship order, and it is expected to select two countries within this year to confirm one final candidate.

Regarding the order, the Japanese Defense Ministry is considering jointly developing the ship in the form of adding equipment and functions required by the Australian government to the Mogami-type frigate, which will be commissioned for the first time in 2022.

The Mogami-type frigate produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries can be operated by 90 people, about half of the existing frigate, and is known to have mine removal capabilities.

Japan, which has refrained from selling weapons under the Peace Constitution, has recently expanded its arms sales by allowing exports of surface-to-air missile Patriots to the United States and next-generation fighter jets to third countries since the end of last year.
