"Please prevent the abolition of the only Go department," the final dismissal of the provisional injunction.

The Supreme Court also rejected the request for an injunction by professors and students of the Myongji University to stop the abolition of the Go department.

The Supreme Court yesterday (7th) upheld the original ruling that rejected the injunction filed by professors, students, and test-takers of Myongji University against Myongji Academy and the Korea University Education Council.

Myungji University opened a Go department in 1997, but it has been discussing closure since 2022 due to poor management and a decrease in the Go population, and has been approved to revise the school regulations not to recruit new students this year.

In response, the plaintiffs filed for an injunction to the effect that the abolition was unfair, saying that the amendment did not include protection measures even though the teaching status and the right to study for students could be violated.

However, the first and second trials rejected the application, saying that Myongji Academy needs to improve its academic structure due to financial bankruptcy, and that it is difficult to say that it is obligated to maintain it just because it is the only Go department in the country.

Myongji University Go is the only Go major in the world opened at a university and has produced several professional articles.
