Hwaseong Lake Reclamation Site in Hwaseong, Seotan-myeon in Pyeongtaek, and Moga-myeon in Icheon were selected as candidates for the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport.

Gyeonggi Province made the announcement when it announced the results of its "research service for establishing a vision and implementation plan for the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport."

Based on the airport site area of 2.7 million square meters and one runway of 3,200 square meters, all three candidate sites have a cost-benefit (B/C) index of 1.0 or higher, which is analyzed to secure economic feasibility.

The selection process first considered airspace (space to ensure safe activities of aircraft) and noise among the provinces, and discovered 10 areas in 5 cities as primary candidates through topographic drawings and on-site confirmation.

Since then, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations have been applied to 10 regions to consider airspace, weather, obstacles, noise, accessibility, and scalability.

In addition, three regions were selected as multiple candidate sites by comprehensively reviewing regional balance and economic feasibility in consideration of the purpose of the future bid.

Han Hyun-soo, head of the Gyeonggi International Airport Promotion Team, said, "Starting with the announcement of the candidate site, we will make sure that Gyeonggi International Airport, which will be created with the provincial residents, can be promoted in the future."
