Volcano eruption of Sibelucci on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia...a cloud of ash up to 250 kilometers

The biggest volcano in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, Sibeluchi Volcano, has erupted.

Russian authorities say the Sibelucci volcano erupted on the evening of the 8th local time, spewing ash up to 15 kilometers into the air.

The ash cloud extended 250 kilometers to the east and several villages were completely covered with ash, it said.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to stay indoors for the time being.

Near the Sibelucci volcano, the highest level of risk level of aircraft operations has been declared.

Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, which is home to about 30 active volcanoes, is one of the most geothermal areas in the world.
