North Korea has made a provocation to disrupt GPS in the West Sea for two consecutive days.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the areas where North Korea caused GPS radio disturbances were in Haeju and Kaesong.
In addition, it was reported that our ships and aircraft passing through the West Sea were damaged by GPS disturbances that continued for two days.
It has been confirmed that dozens of civil aircraft have been disrupted by GPS radio confusion.
Earlier, on the 5th, our military also detected GPS disturbance signals in the West Sea.
GPS uses satellites to check locations, and transportation, such as ships and aircraft, can be fatal if disturbed.
It can also cause great damage to the military's weapon system using GPS.
North Korea's GPS radio disturbance attack is believed to be aimed at causing obstacles to our military's weapon systems and measuring equipment.
[Kim Yeol-soo / Director of the Korea Military Research Institute: GPS jamming can misrepresent my current location or target. Therefore, especially in the case of ships, the current location is Yeonpyeong Island, but it may appear as a North Korean area.]
During the South Korea-U.S. joint exercise "Freedom Shield" in March, North Korea fired GPS radio disturbance signals several times over the five islands in the West Sea.
In May, GPS radio disturbance attacks were carried out for several days in the northern limit line of the West Sea.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff asked ships and aircraft operating in the West Sea to pay attention to GPS radio disturbances in North Korea.
He also urged North Korea to immediately stop its GPS provocations and warned that it was responsible for all subsequent problems.
