Police detect 1,000 illegal activities at construction sites for six months

More than 1,000 people have been caught for crackdowns on illegal activities at construction sites in the past six months.

The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters conducted a special crackdown on poor construction and violence for six months from April 29 this year, detecting 1,96 people and handing over 701 of them to the prosecution.

The sent suspects consisted of 575 construction corruption offenders and 126 extortion and violence offenders, and the most frequently caught offenders were 355 in poor construction, accounting for more than half of the construction corruption sector.

The 126 offenders of extortion and violence were 58 extortion, 33 who forced recruitment or equipment, 20 violent acts, and 15 illegal assembly.

By region, 470 people, or 42.9% of the total number of crackdown personnel, were handed over to the prosecution from the Seoul Metropolitan Government (114 people), Gyeonggi Southern Office (212 people), and Gyeonggi Northern Office (144 people), where construction sites are concentrated.
