The extraordinary general meeting of the Korean Medical Association will be held today to determine the future of Chairman Lim Hyun-taek and whether to form an emergency committee.

Yes, the Korean Medical Association will hold an extraordinary general meeting at 2 p.m. today in the auditorium on the first basement floor of the Medical Association Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

It is the second general meeting of delegates convened after Chairman Lim Hyun-taek took office in May.

There are two agendas for the general meeting: the proposal of no confidence in Chairman Lim and the composition of the emergency committee.

Earlier, 103 delegates of the Medical Association damaged the reputation of the Medical Association by President Lim's multiple verbal and misleading remarks,

I proposed an impeachment motion, saying it violated the rights and interests of members by failing to prevent the enactment of the nursing law.

Delegates will vote anonymous after hearing Chairman Lim's personal remarks at the general meeting, but the current situation is not easy for Chairman Lim.

Last month, he apologized after being severely criticized for saying that he was talking like a schizophrenic patient targeting President Jang Sang-yoon, senior presidential secretary for social affairs.

He suffered from the release of a recording that demanded 100 million won in 50,000 won bills in exchange for the complaint against an executive of the Seoul Metropolitan Council who slandered him.

Then, how can we expect the results of today's general meeting?

According to the articles of association of the Medical Association, if more than two-thirds of the delegates present agree to impeachment, Chairman Lim should step down after six months in office.

Currently, there are 248 delegates on the list, which requires consent from at least 110 delegates.

If the no-confidence motion of Chairman Lim is passed, it will remain the second disgraceful case of being impeached by a delegate after former Chairman Roh Hwan-kyu in April 2014.

Even if the impeachment bill is rejected today, it is a mountain to mountain for Chairman Lim.

In the case of the second agenda, the composition of the emergency committee, it will be passed if a majority of the participating delegates agree to attend the majority of the registered delegates.

The threshold for approval is relatively lower than that of the no-confidence motion.

For this reason, inside and outside the Korean Medical Association, even if Chairman Lim preserves his position, it is expected that the delegates will establish their leadership through the formation of the emergency committee.

The council of representatives announced that they would announce the results at around 4 p.m. after the general meeting.
