The Rural Development Administration will hold the "2024 Autumn Cabbage and Radish Field Evaluation Meeting" at the National Institute of Horticultural Science to develop vegetable varieties that respond to the climate tomorrow (11th).

The evaluation meeting will be attended by 15 public-private breeding experts, including breeding experts from the Korea Seed Association, people in charge of the city and provincial agricultural technology centers, and farmers.

Experts evaluate a total of 190 systems, including 120 systems of back and 70 systems of radishes that are resistant to heat and dry conditions.

Cabbage and radishes for kimchi are harvested in November of the year when seedlings are planted in early August and September (plants or crops are moved to places to be grown until they are harvested from where they were previously grown).

The Rural Development Administration said that since the late heat wave has been severe this year, it plans to focus on whether it can withstand the heat well, whether it does not cause heartburn, pests, and calcium deficiency, in addition to the appropriate taste and shape for kimchi.

Following this year, the Rural Development Administration will evaluate the characteristics and quality of its resources in various environments such as Wanju-gun, highland, and semi-highland next year.

Based on the data collected in this way, we plan to select cabbages and radishes that can respond to climate change and distribute them to the site through seed companies.
