Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump three times in recent days, saying he has sought to strengthen the alliance between the two countries.

"It was a useful and very important conversation," Netanyahu said in a statement on the 10th local time.

"We are perfectly in agreement with President-elect Trump on the threat of Iran and the risks that come with it," he said, adding, "We pay attention to the great opportunity ahead of Israel in areas such as the expansion of peace."

Netanyahu also earlier said he celebrated Trump's recapture of the White House, calling it "the greatest comeback in history."
