Sergei Shoigu, secretary of Russia's National Security Council, will visit China from today (11th) to 14th local time, Tas news agency reported.

This is the first high-level contact between Russia and China shortly after President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election.

In China, Shoigu will hold talks with senior Chinese officials, including Wang Yi, head of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China.

In particular, strategic security consultations with Wang Yi will discuss international and regional issues and a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues.

He also plans to meet with Chen Wenqing, secretary of China's Central Law Commission, the head of China's public security command, to discuss security and the rule of law, and to deal with responses to extremism, terrorism and transnational crimes.

During his visit, Shoigu will also attend an air show in Zhuhai, China, to watch the first overseas demonstration of Russia's fifth-generation fighter Su-57.

Shoigu is a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and served as defense minister from 2012 to May.
