The Washington Post reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump advised Russian President Vladimir Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine in a phone call on the 7th.

The Washington Post quoted sources as saying that Trump said there was a significant amount of U.S. troops in Europe.

Trump and Putin discussed their peace goals on the continent in a phone call, and Trump is said to have shown interest in subsequent talks to discuss a resolution to the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine's government has reportedly been informed of a phone call between Trump and Putin and has not opposed it.

Earlier, during his presidential campaign, Trump has vowed to end the war within 24 hours of taking office, but has not commented on specific measures.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the 6th that Trump's aides are considering a plan to suspend Ukraine's NATO membership for at least 20 years and create a demilitarized zone with the current front frozen.
