German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone on the 10th local time and discussed pending issues such as peace in Europe.

The two spoke on the phone and discussed bilateral relations and geopolitical challenges between Germany and the United States, government spokesman Steffen Heveschmidt said, according to Reuters and AFP.

Scholz stressed the German government's willingness to continue its relationship with the United States, which has been successful over the past few decades, Hevesstadt said.

It also added that Scholz and Trump "agreed to work together to restore peace in Europe."

The call between the two comes as attention is focused on Trump's strategy to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump has said on several occasions during his campaign that he could "end the war within 24 hours of taking office," raising concerns in Europe that Trump could force negotiations, including territorial concessions from Ukraine, after taking office.

However, in a phone call with President Vladimir Putin on the 7th, Trump reportedly also fired a check on the Russian side, mentioning the U.S. military in Europe and saying, "Don't expand the war in Ukraine."

In a congratulatory statement after Trump's victory was confirmed on the 6th, Prime Minister Scholz said in English, "We can live better if we are together," and stressed, "If we are together, we can achieve more than we can face each other."
