Ukraine's Defense Ministry intelligence bureau released voice files that clearly heard North Korean words, including "One, two, one, two," "Wait," "I received a seal," and "Two seals, one seal, one seal," saying they were intercepted the day before local time.
The Ukrainian military interpreted the wiretapping of the radio the day before and that it contained an immediate order to return.
Ukrainian and U.S. intelligence officials understand that about 10,000 North Korean troops have been sent to support Russia's war in Ukraine and are now in Kursk.
Amid predictions that the dispatched North Korean troops will soon be in full force, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian military said the previous day, "We have received many reports that North Korean troops are preparing to participate in combat operations with Russian forces."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also noted that some North Korean troops were put into combat, resulting in casualties.
Kursk is an area of mainland Russia that Ukraine has been occupying since August in a surprise offensive, and Russia is expected to try to recapture by mobilizing North Korean troops and others.
