A decision was made to dismiss Lee Im-jae, former chief of Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, who was sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial for his poor response to the Itaewon disaster.

An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said he was informed of the decision to dismiss the former chief Lee today (11th).

Earlier in September, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced former Chief Lee to three years in prison at a sentencing hearing against the people in charge of the Yongsan Police Station and Yongsan-gu District Office in Seoul during the Itaewon disaster.

Song Byung-joo, former head of the 112 Situation Office at Yongsan Police Station, who was indicted and sentenced to two years in prison, was also found to have been dismissed.
