Police have launched a full-fledged investigation based on suicide notes and statements from acquaintances in connection with the death of a single mother in her 30s who was suffering from illegal collection by loan sharks.

The Jongam Police Station in Seoul said it is chasing a woman in her 30s who passed away in September, believing that she suffered from illegal loans and threats from loan sharks with an annual interest rate of thousands of percent.

According to the YTN report, A borrowed hundreds of thousands of won from loan sharks and owed more than 10 million won in a month at an annual rate of 3,000%.

It has been confirmed that loan sharks sent hundreds of threatening texts a day containing abusive language and insults to family and acquaintances when A failed to pay back the money on time.

He also reportedly lent 1 million won and demanded that he pay back 1.5 million won in a week, or pressured him to pay 100,000 won more every minute later than the time he was supposed to pay back the money.

Even after Mr. A's death, it was confirmed that loan sharks called their families and threatened them to pay off their debts instead.
