Prosecutors have demanded a prison sentence for former lawmaker Moon Jae-jin, who was accused of publishing the results of the poll without reporting to the Election Commission ahead of the April 10 general election.

The prosecution asked the court to sentence former lawmaker Moon to 10 months in prison at the first hearing on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act held today (12th) at Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court.

Former lawmaker Moon was indicted without detention in February on charges of announcing that the first and fourth candidates were reversed without reporting to the NEC after hearing that he came in fourth in the Democratic Party's survey of the suitability of four preliminary candidates in the district.

In response, former lawmaker Moon argued that publicizing the results of the poll on the election would result in punishment by election law, but that the prosecution was not legally guilty as it was a poll on the primary.

On the 12th of next month, the court will proceed with the first trial of former lawmaker Moon.
