President Yoon Suk Yeol will leave on the 14th to visit Peru, where the APEC summit will be held, and Brazil, the host of the G20 summit.
His wife, Kim Gun-hee, is not accompanying him, as it is his first overseas trip in about a month since his trip to Southeast Asia last October.
Attending a multilateral meeting is the key to this departure.President Yun
will first attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and APEC meeting in Lima, Peru, to discuss ways to accelerate energy transition, expand food security, and grow inclusive economies.
As the next APEC meeting will be held in Gyeongju, we will also carry out various schedules as the chair country for next year.
[Kim Tae-hyo / First Deputy Director of the National Security Office: As the chair of APEC next year, President Yoon will declare that the Republic of Korea will take the lead in discussing the creation of a free and stable trade investment environment.]
He will then travel to Brazil, where the G20 summit will be held on the 17th local time, after completing his official visit, including the Korea-Peru summit, which focuses on defense cooperation.President
Yoon will return home on the morning of the 21st if no additional schedule is set after speaking at a session on poverty eradication, sustainable development and energy transition.
[Park Chun-seop / Senior Presidential Secretary for Economic Affairs: President Yoon urged the international community to strengthen solidarity and cooperation in combating hunger and poverty, responding to climate change, digital carbon neutrality, Russia, and the Ukraine crisis in his remarks..]
During the eight-day trip, a summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is expected to take place.
The president's office said it is also coordinating a South Korea-U.S.-Japan summit involving U.S. President Biden, and if it takes place, a separate three-way meeting will not be needed in the U.S. next month.
The Korea-China summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping is also being positively coordinated, so it is likely that there will be a meeting to discuss cooperation between the two countries.
The president's office only stated that it is "in close communication" with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on the possibility of meeting during the trip.
As the president-elect Trump's consistent explanation is that he is focusing on domestic politics, the possibility of a meeting on this trip is not very high right now.
