"Ratcliffe will be a fighter who fights fearlessly for the constitutional rights of all Americans while ensuring the highest level of national security and 'peace through strength,'" Trump said in a statement.
Trump pointed to former director Ratcliffe's revelation of Russia-related fake news from Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign and his critical views in the controversy over the legitimacy of President Joe Biden's second son Hunter Biden laptop.
Ratcliffe served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 2015 to 2020, and was selected as DNI director in the final year of the Trump administration.
When he was a congressman, he was recognized for his loyalty by actively defending then-President Trump in the investigation of the Congress's alleged involvement in the Russian presidential election and the impeachment of the president.
Even during his tenure as DNI director, he caused controversy over neutrality due to his blatant pro-Trump moves.
