The Association of Patient Organizations has expressed its opposition to discussing medical reform beyond adjusting the number of medical schools for the 2026 school year at the ruling-opposition parliamentary consultative body, which was launched on the 11th.

The association pointed out that if the ruling-opposition parliamentary council, which does not include a group to represent patients and the people, discusses the establishment of a medical accident safety net, the government is likely to only reflect the unilateral requirements of the medical community.

In particular, he said he strongly opposes the discussion of "criminal prosecution and punishment exemption for medical personnel who caused medical accidents," a key requirement of the medical community, in a structure that does not reflect the opinions of victims and bereaved families of medical accidents.

Regarding the ruling party lawmaker's statement after the first meeting of the consultative body that he would produce meaningful results by the end of this year, he also stressed that "meaningful results" should be properly judged to be consistent with what patients and the public think.
