The National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee submitted a motion to ratify the 12th Korea-U.S. Special Agreement on Defense Cost Sharing, which was concluded last month, to a bill review subcommittee.

The ratification motion will be submitted to the plenary session after a so-called review and a vote by the Foreign Affairs and Trade Commission, and the government plans to quickly end the ratification before U.S. President-elect Trump, who has hinted at a significant increase in defense cost sharing, takes office.

According to the 12th agreement concluded last month, Korea's contribution to the defense cost of the U.S. Forces Korea in 2026 was 1.5 trillion won, up 8.3% from the previous year.

The Foreign Affairs and Communications Commission also voted to extend the U.N. South Sudan mission and Lebanon peacekeeping forces by one year until the end of next year.
