Kim Hye-kyung, the spouse of Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was accused of misappropriating a corporate card in Gyeonggi Province, will be sentenced today.

The Suwon District Court will hold a first trial hearing on Kim's alleged violation of the Public Official Election Act from 2 p.m. today (14th).

Kim was put on trial in August 2021, ahead of the presidential election, on charges of paying 104,000 won for meals for six people, including the spouses of former and current lawmakers, with a corporate card of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.

In a final hearing held last month, the prosecution asked the court to fine Kim 3 million won, saying, "I tried to buy the spouse of a powerful politician with money, so the crime is serious regardless of the amount."

In response, Kim emphasized in his final statement that he had never been involved in the crime, but said he would be careful in the future, saying that there were doubts about the payment process for meals.

Earlier, Bae, an accompanying secretary who was handed over to trial on the same charges as Kim, was sentenced to 10 months in prison and suspended for two years.
