Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who prosecuted U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, is expected to resign voluntarily soon, the New York Times and other U.S. media reported.
Special counsel Smith indicted Trump in August last year on charges of taking out confidential documents during his first term in office and disobeying the 2020 presidential election.
[Jack Smith / U.S. Special Counsel (August last year): The indictment against Donald J. Trump says he is accused of deceiving the United States, trying to disenfranchise voters, conspiring to interfere with official proceedings.]
Trump has repeatedly warned that the special counsel's indictment is a political repression and that he will be removed as soon as he takes office.
[Donald Trump/U.S. President-elect (Oct. 24): It's very easy. I'll fire him (Jack Smith) in two seconds.]
The New York Times said Smith plans to complete his work and resign before January next year when Trump returns to the White House.
Separately, he added that he is interested in whether the detailed report of the case, which Smith has investigated so far, will be released to the public.
The FBI, which raided Trump's Florida Mar-a-Lago resort during the investigation, as well as Special Counsel Smith, is unlikely to avoid anger.
FBI Director Christopher Wray is also likely to resign voluntarily, CNN reported.
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Justice custom of not prosecuting incumbent presidents, the special prosecution of Trump has been virtually announced to be blank.
The court of Trump's "money to shut up sex scandals" has also postponed its decision on whether to sentence him.
Reuters said there are widespread predictions in the legal community that the sentence will also be postponed on the 26th, predicting that the sentence will be delayed until the end of Trump's new term.
As most of Trump, who is considered the "first president to be convicted of a criminal trial" in U.S. history, is likely to be freed from judicial risks, many are concerned about the dominance of a second unchecked administration.
