U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla has launched a voluntary recall after identifying a defect in some vehicles of its electric pickup truck "Cybertruck" that causes it to lose driving power and stop.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tesla is recalling some of its vehicles produced from Nov. 6 last year to July 30 this year because of a defect in inverter parts that could cause Cybertruck to lose drive.

The transportation department explained that if the inverter fails to produce torque, even if the driver presses the accelerator pedal, torque is not applied to the vehicle, which can cause the vehicle to lose driving power and suddenly stop, increasing the risk of collision.

Tesla received consumer complaints about the sudden loss of drive in August and launched an investigation, which found that the vehicles subject to the recall totaled 2,431 vehicles, or 1% of all production vehicles.

Tesla has conducted its sixth career recall so far in less than a year since it began delivering Cybertrucks to customers in late November last year.
