U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has officially named Senator Marco Rubio as secretary of state to lead U.S. foreign policy.

In a statement, Trump announced the ministerial nomination, calling Mako a highly respected leader and a very powerful voice of freedom.

Trump said he would be a true friend to allies and a fearless warrior to enemies and looked forward to working with Mako to make America and the world safe and great again.

Senator Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants and will be recorded as the first Latin American secretary of state if officially appointed after Senate confirmation.

Rubio has been considered a "big Chinese hawk" for leading pressure and checks against China, including co-proposal of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in 2020.
