Gyeonggi-do Provincial Council's 'Measures to Prevent Inundation Damage in Urban River Basin' Ordinance'

The Gyeonggi Provincial Council announced today (14th) the "Ordinance on Measures to Prevent Inundation Damage in Urban River Basin" proposed by Park Myung-sook (People's Power, Yangpyeong 1).

The ordinance includes the provincial governor establishing an implementation plan such as specific urban river maintenance and flood prevention facility projects to prevent urban river flooding.

In addition, it included financing necessary to implement the implementation plan, the formation of an advisory group, and incentives to cities and counties that contributed to preventing flood damage.

In addition, the provincial governor will be able to request the relevant cities and counties to submit data to understand the actual conditions of flood prevention facilities, and will be required to submit a report on the performance of projects related to flood prevention facilities in each city and county in January every year, including future measures.

Representative Park said, "The torrential rain caused by climate change has frequently caused flooding in urban river areas," adding, "The province has pushed for the enactment of the ordinance to protect the lives and property of the residents by preparing systematic and comprehensive measures to prevent flooding damage."

In particular, the ordinance stipulates that in addition to the governor's responsibility, provincial residents should cooperate as much as possible in preventing flood damage and make efforts to prevent flood damage to their buildings and facilities.

It also contains grounds to reward individuals, organizations, and city and county officials who contributed to preventing flood damage.

The ordinance will be deliberated at a regular meeting of the provincial council, which will be held until the 19th of next month after the legislative notice.
