When the prosecution demanded 15 years in prison, a first trial court sentenced a defendant in his 40s to six years in prison for belatedly revealing the place where the stolen gold stick was hidden.

The Chuncheon District Court sentenced 42-year-old Park, who was handed over to trial on charges of robbery and injury, to six years in prison.

Park was arrested and put on trial in May on charges of stealing money and valuables after wielding a weapon against his owner at a gold and silver shop in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do.

Park kept quiet about the whereabouts of the gold bracelet he stole at the time of the crime for more than four months until he was arrested and tried.

However, when the prosecution demanded a 15-year prison term at the final hearing, he felt pressured and belatedly confessed that he buried 40 million won worth of gold bracelets under a tree in a nearby university.

The court said, "We acknowledged the mistake and took into account the fact that the place where the damage was concealed."
