The Ministry of Environment is expected to suspend operations on the 10th at the Yeongpung Seokpo Smelter in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where it operated with the sulfuric acid gas detector turned off.

The Ministry of Environment decided to suspend the operation of the Seokpo Smelter on the 10th and notified the disposal plan in advance on the 6th to hear the smelter's opinion.

Earlier, the Seokpo Smelter was found to have operated with seven sulfuric acid gas detectors turned off during an occasional inspection by the Daegu Regional Environmental Office.

In 2019, the Seokpo Smelter was suspended for 60 days after being caught discharging wastewater flowing into pollution prevention facilities without permission, and a cancellation lawsuit filed by the smelter was confirmed to have lost the plaintiff.

North Gyeongsang Province will soon confirm the 60-day suspension period, and the Ministry of Environment plans to discuss the new 10-day suspension to continue on the 60th.
