While the number of diabetic patients in Korea is steadily increasing due to the aging population, the number of patients with diabetes and high blood pressure is also increasing.

According to the status of diabetes treatment over the past five years announced by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, a total of 3,8288,600 patients were treated for diabetes last year.

About 7.5% of Korea's population received diabetes treatment last year.

Last year, more than 1,845,000 people were treated for diabetes and high blood pressure at the same time, accounting for 48.2% of the total, and the number of patients with diabetes and high blood pressure increased 23.1% compared to 2019.

The number of patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease increased by 14.8% over the past five years, reaching 257,000 last year.

By age, 21.8% of patients in their 70s, 18.5% of those over 80 years old, and 16.4% of those in their 60s were over 60 years old.
