Rep. Lee Joon-seok of the New Reform Party claimed that in 2022, when President Yoon Suk Yeol was the president-elect, he demanded that a specific person be nominated in connection with the nomination of Pohang Mayor and Gangseo-gu Mayor.

Rep. Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly Hall and raised the suspicion, saying it was unusual for the president-elect to talk about the nomination of Pohang mayor in the June 2022 local elections.

He then recalled that Lee Kang-deok, the current mayor of Pohang, was being excluded from the nomination on an unreasonable basis at the time, and that he restrained it.

However, Rep. Lee claims that Kim Jung-jae, then chairman of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party, continued to protest and deliver it to the president, and that the president said, "You shouldn't nominate like this."

Lawmaker Lee also explained that he visited Mrs. Kim in person to check it out because a certain person said he would be nominated in Pohang because he was close to Mrs. Kim Gun-hee.

Rep. Lee did not elaborate on the details of his conversation with First Lady Kim and said the results of the nomination could infer the response, but Lee Kang-deok, who was excluded from the nomination at the time, was elected mayor of Pohang after receiving a primary opportunity.

Lee claimed that President Yoon was also involved in the election of the head of Gangseo-gu District Office in Seoul, and when all three heads of the party's cooperation committee said they opposed Kim Tae-woo's nomination, President Yoon said, "This is helping the Democratic Party."

At the same time, President Yoon said Pohang should be nominated after listening to the provincial chairman or the party's cooperation chairman, and Gangseo-gu District Mayor saw that he did not, so he thought he was specifically intervening by looking at people, not principles and philosophy.

Separately, there were claims that President Yoon was involved in the nomination of candidates for governor of Gyeonggi-do Province, and a People's Power official claimed that as Kim Eun-hye became a candidate for governor of Gyeonggi-do Province, President Yoon's will was also reflected in the process of Ahn Cheol Soo winning the nomination for the vacant Bundang-gap by-elections.
