Iran's Supreme Leader Adviser Visits Lebanon...unwavering commitment to support Lebanon

An adviser to Iran's supreme leader visited Lebanon on the 15th local time to pledge unwavering support as the U.S. pressed for a new ceasefire on the more than year-long Middle East war.

"Iran supports Lebanon under any circumstances," Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, told reporters after their respective talks with Lebanese parliament speaker Navi Berry and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, adding that he hoped the situation in Lebanon would improve soon, allowing refugees to return home.

Asked if he was visiting to stop U.S. efforts to end the war between Israel and Hezbollah, he pointed out that "Iran is not trying to interfere with anything, but seeking to solve the problem, and it is Netanyahu and Israel that are causing confusion."

Meanwhile, local Lebanese media reported that the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon handed over a draft cease-fire deal to end the Israeli-Hezbollah war to National Assembly Speaker Nabi Berry, who has led the talks on behalf of Hezbollah.

A Lebanese official confirmed that Johnson visited Berry on the 15th, but did not say whether the draft had been delivered.
