Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will hold their first face-to-face meeting in Peru on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Kyodo News quoted a Japanese government official as saying.

This is the first time that Prime Minister Ishiba, who took office on the 1st of last month, will take over with President Xi.The last time President

Xi met with the Japanese prime minister was a conversation with former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in San Francisco in the wake of the APEC summit in November last year.

At the meeting, the leaders of the two countries are expected to confirm their policy of pursuing a "strategic reciprocal relationship" to expand common interests between China and Japan.

Kyodo said the leaders of the two countries were expected to agree to create a "mutually reciprocal and stable" relationship despite longstanding tensions over the post-war situation, territorial and a number of other issues.
