Iwaya plans to meet with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibihar in Kyiv and convey his intention to continue Ukraine aid and sanctions against Russia.
Japan's Foreign Ministry said, "Foreign Minister Iwaya will convey that Japan is seriously concerned about North Korea's moves to advance military cooperation with Russia, including the dispatch of North Korea to Russia, and exchange opinions on the recent situation."
This is the first visit to Ukraine by Iwaya, who took office last month, and is also coordinating the prevention of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the visit.
After attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and APEC Ministerial Meeting in Peru, Iwaya visited Ukraine by train from Poland without disclosing his visit in advance.
