A civilian informant of the National Intelligence Service, who was put on trial for falsely reporting an innocent person as a drug trafficker, was acquitted by an appeals court.

The Seoul High Court acquitted Son, who served as an NIS agent, of the charges of innocence under the Specific Crime Weighted Penalty Act, as in the first trial.

The court explained that there was insufficient evidence for Son's false report of two innocent people as drug traffickers.

He then added that Son has a poor motivation to innocent the victim.Son

was arrested and charged in August last year with manipulating trafficking criminals, including sending personal information of two people, including A, to a Filipino drug dealer and having drugs brought in by international mail.

However, the court sentenced Son to three years in prison, the same as the first trial, on charges of fraud and violation of the Lawyers Act.

Mr. A is also accused of making false statements with the intention of approaching the suspect accused of charter fraud and asking the judge of the case to prevent him from being sentenced to prison.
