APEC Closes... Confirms Support for Multilateral Trade Amid Concerns Over 'Second Trump'

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the APEC Summit ended by sharing the vision of economic development through multilateral trade, with the launch of the "Second Trump," which foreshadowed a strong "America First."

Through the Machu Picchu Declaration, the leaders of the 21 APEC member states emphasized their commitment to "creating a free, open, fair and predictable trade and investment environment."

It also supported the "Lima Roadmap" to promote legal economic activity and the transition to a global economy.

During the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping and others emphasized the value of free trade, but there was little movement to deal directly with international issues such as the war in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Next year's APEC summit, the first since the inauguration of the second Trump administration, will be held in Gyeongju.
