In early June, President Biden issued an executive order prohibiting asylum applications and U.S. stays for anyone who crossed the southern border without legal paperwork, enabling a swift deportation.
The New York Times explained that Biden's ultra-hardline measures have dropped the number of migrants crossing the southern border to its lowest in years, and now they can be used as a useful tool for realizing Trump's pledges.
