A YTN report confirmed that the damage was also reported to the police before the death of a single mother in her 30s who died after being bullied by illegal loan sharks.

At that time, the police were conducting a special crackdown to quickly investigate illegal private financial crimes, but it seems that it was not easy for victims to get help in time.

On September 22, a single mother in her 30s who was suffering from illegal collection was found dead in Wanju, Jeollabuk-do.

At that time, the police closed the case, saying no criminal charges were found.

However, as a result of the YTN report, it was confirmed that the illegal collection damage situation had already been delivered to the police about 10 days before A died.

An acquaintance of A, who received a threatening text message with slander against A from a loan shark, informed the police information officer.

However, this situation was reported to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency only after A died, and no measures were taken to protect A in the meantime.

[Mr. A's acquaintance: If you met the person concerned and talked a little bit, you wouldn't die. [I'll help you if you want something]

And the official investigation was launched 46 days after an acquaintance first announced the damage a month later.

The police said they needed more specific information on the damage to proceed smoothly without an official report, and tried to contact A after first encountering the situation, but could not be reached.

However, the police, who were under a special crackdown on illegal private finance at the time, promoted that they would manage cases involving physical and mental damage to debtors in preference to general cases through fast-track investigation and rapid investigation conversion.

However, in reality, it seems that the protection and information sharing of victims, as well as the rapid change of investigation, did not take place.

In addition, it is also a problem that the bereaved family was left exposed to threats from loan sharks even after the police launched an investigation.

[Mr. A's bereaved family: Let's say he died well, that he would let his family go by his side]

Another illegal collection victim contacted by YTN also claims to have visited the police station during a special police crackdown and heard absurd words.

[Illegal collection victim: (I went to the police station in August) and he said he couldn't catch it because it was a fake bank account. (I borrowed 200,000 won) He just told me not to give 500,000 won.]

When the president called for a strong response after the case of a single mother who left her 6-year-old daughter was revealed, the police belatedly said they would set up a "special team dedicated to illegal private finance."

It also decided to extend the special crackdown by one year, promoting that the number of arrests and personnel has steadily increased over the past two years.

However, it is pointed out that police response needs to be changed in order to protect victims and root out illegal collection.
