The Mexican president, who will attend his first international multilateral conference since taking office last month, left the country on a civil aircraft.Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum
boarded a general plane at Benito Juarez International Airport (AICM) in Mexico City on the 17th local time to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the host of the Group of 20 summit.

Mr. Sheinbaum will make one stop in Panama City before arriving at his destination later in the evening, the president's office said.

The social network service posted photos of President Sheinbaum being welcomed by citizens at the airport and the moment he greeted the captain and crew in the aircraft cabin.

The sight of a Mexican president boarding a civil aircraft with a citizen is relatively familiar to Mexicans, which has become a practice since former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Former President López Obrador sold his presidential plane to "reduce overspending" and used it on business trips at home and abroad.

"President Sheinbaum has decided to inherit the principles of boarding civil aircraft, which were set as basic government guidelines, in order to save the budget," the president's office said, adding that Foreign Minister Juan Ramon Dera Fuente and others accompanied the president.
