According to the Incheon Jungbu Police Station, 112 reports came in from a restaurant in Yeongjong-do, Jung-gu, Incheon on the 14th that "the military unit lost contact after ordering group food packaging."
It was confirmed that the restaurant received a call from A on the 13th, saying, "Please prepare to receive 50 servings of pork bulgogi at 2 p.m. on the 14th."
Mr. A introduced himself as Sergeant Kim Dong-hyun of the Air Force and requested a receipt, and delivered an official letter of "Supplementary Food Payment Guarantee" by text message.
The official document said, "We will pay 500,000 won for the purchase of food needed for training," along with the unit name, date, location, and official seal of the person in charge.
The restaurant, which trusted this, reportedly prepared extra rice and meat for soldiers and purchased two more boxes of tangerines for dessert.
However, Mr. A lost contact with him after making a phone call to check the preparations on the morning of the 14th.
In this case, there was no request for payment, but caution is needed in that it is a typical phishing crime using impersonation of military officials and group orders.
Recently, damage has been continuously caused in various industries such as restaurants, butchers, and florists by impersonating military officials to steal money.
A police official said, "In order to prevent damage caused by the no-show, we need to ask for advance payments when ordering a group," adding, "We need to be careful as similar damage is continuing."
