[Network] The integration of Mokpo University and Suncheon University is a 'historic feat'...a green light for the establishment of a single medical school

As Mokpo National University and Suncheon National University decided to integrate in a surprise move, a green light was turned on for the establishment of a medical school, Jeonnam's long-cherished dream of 30 years.

Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok held a press conference and said, "The decision to merge Mokpo University and Suncheon University is a historical feat for Jeollanam-do to merge and advance into the future," adding that the establishment of a single medical school at the university has gained more momentum.

Governor Kim added that he would not spare full support for the integration of the two universities, which have already been selected as Glocal universities, and various related projects.

President Yoon Suk Yeol's verbal promise opened the way for the establishment of a national medical school in Jeollanam-do, but there have been concerns that Mokpo University and Suncheon University will be canceled as they compete without any concessions.

Earlier on the 15th, Mokpo National University President Song Ha-cheol and Suncheon National University President Lee Byung-woon agreed to decide on university integration with the aim of launching in 2026 and promote a single national medical school.
