Kim Hye-kyung, the spouse of Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was accused of providing meals to former and current lawmakers' spouses with a corporate card in Gyeonggi Province during the last presidential election, appealed against the first trial.

Dasan, a law firm that is defending Kim, filed an appeal to the Suwon District Court today (18th).

Earlier, the first trial court sentenced him to a fine of 1.5 million won, acknowledging the conspiracy relationship between Bae and Kim, the secretary who paid for the meal at the time.

In response, Kim's lawyer protested that he would appeal, saying there was no direct evidence that he had colluded with Bae, and that the court had convicted him based on reasoning and speculation.

Kim was indicted in August 2021 when Lee Jae-myung was serving as governor of Gyeonggi-do Province, on charges of paying 104,000 won for meals for six people, including his spouse of former and current lawmakers, with a corporate card in Gyeonggi-do Province ahead of the presidential election.
