Reuters said at least eight people were killed and several others were missing when super typhoon "Manny" hit the northern Philippines on the 18th local time.

Heavy rains with maximum wind speeds of 240 km/h flooded everywhere and houses collapsed.

Typhoon Mani is the strongest of the six typhoons to hit the Philippines in the last four weeks, and at one point, more than 20 airports were closed and 750,000 people were evacuated.

Disaster officials say more than 1 million people have been affected by the typhoon and that there are countless villages without electricity, communications and water supplies.

Even before the restoration work began, a stronger typhoon struck, increasing the scale of the damage.

Luzon Island, already home to the most people in the Philippines, has been hit by a series of typhoons in the past three weeks, killing more than 160 people and injuring 9 million.．

Typhoon Mani weakened a lot as it crossed Luzon Island, but it is still approaching Vietnam with winds of up to 135km/h.
