Today (19th) marks the 1,000th day of the war in Ukraine, and the war has entered a new phase as the United States allows Ukraine to use long-range missiles.
European countries supporting Ukraine along with the United States have responded positively, while Russia has warned strongly, citing even World War III.

the thousandth day of the war in Ukraine
The war has taken a new turn with reports that the U.S. has authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles amid Russia's intensifying offensive.
Major EU member states, such as Germany and the Netherlands, evaluated the U.S. decision as an appropriate step at this point.
The EU's foreign minister has urged member states to also approve the use of weapons provided to Ukraine by the EU, which France says is considering.

However, some point out that it is too early to be optimistic about how effective Western arms aid will be.
The BBC predicted that Russia may not be enough to turn the tide because it has moved outside the range of U.S. missiles such as fighter jets.
There have also been warnings of World War III in Russian politics, with the Kremlin criticizing Biden's decision as intended to add fuel to the fire and escalate tensions, saying U.S. intervention has entered a new phase.
At the same time, he reminded Putin of his remarks that attacking with Western weapons would mean going to war with Russia.
[Vladimir Putin / Russian President (last September): We have the right to use nuclear weapons if there is an act of aggression against Russia and Belarus]
The Biden administration's lifting of missile restrictions came two months before the Trump administration was launched.
It is unclear whether Trump, who promised to end the war, will take over the move.
