The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency arrested four people, including doctors and brokers, on charges of false claims of loss insurance premiums by opening a medical institution for the purpose of insurance fraud and handing over four daily workers to the prosecution without detention.

The group is accused of stealing 6.4 billion won in insurance premiums by manipulating medical records as if they set up a medical institution in Haeundae-gu, Busan in December 2020 to perform cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery, and to pay for real-life insurance such as manual treatment.

It was investigated that they encouraged patients to undergo cosmetic procedures as much as the limit of real-life insurance by having brokers recruiting patients at hospitals and non-life assessors for insurance due diligence.

In addition, it was confirmed that the hospital right next to it was moved to Dongnae-gu, Busan, in September last year to continue treatment when it was investigated by the police on charges of insurance fraud.

Police are handing over 750 of the 2,300 patients treated at the medical institution and pharmacists who claimed health insurance premiums through false prescriptions to the prosecution, and are investigating whether other patients have unfairly claimed insurance money and false claims of health insurance premiums.
