The Suwon District Prosecutors' Office today (19th) indicted Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is suspected of misappropriating corporate cards in Gyeonggi Province, without detention on charges of professional breach of duty.

It is the fifth indictment following the Public Official Election Act case, which was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation in the first trial on the 15th, and the perjury teacher case, which is set to be sentenced on the 25th.

At the same time, the prosecution said it indicted without detention Mr. Lee's chief of staff when he was governor of Gyeonggi-do Province, Mr. Chung, and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung's accompanying secretary Mr. Bae.

However, the prosecution has been suspended against CEO Lee's spouse Kim, who is suspected of using the corporate card privately.

The prosecution reportedly did not file a prosecution in consideration of the fact that his spouse, representative Lee Jae-myung, was handed over to trial on the same charges, although they expected to be able to prove Kim's allegations.

The prosecution judged that Lee spent about 106 million won from 2018 to 2021 when he was governor of Gyeonggi-do Province by spending his budget on fruits or sandwiches to eat privately or using official cars regardless of official duties.

Prosecutors said at the time that the "samo's team" bought fruits and sandwiches for Lee and his wife to eat, but they made false spending resolutions under the chief of staff and were treated as Gyeonggi Province's budget.

He also pointed out that Lee and his wife paid 8.9 million won worth of food such as beef and sushi for free with a corporate card in Gyeonggi Province, and wrote false documents as if they were using corporate cards for public purposes to disguise them as legitimate expenditures.

Lee and his wife then said they used the official car like a private car throughout their term, such as stopping it in their home parking lot and attaching apartment parking stickers, and judged that they earned at least 60 million won in combined rent and car washing costs.

Prosecutors reportedly analyzed the verdict of Lee's spouse, Kim, who was fined 1.5 million won earlier, and put it in the indictment.
Even if there is no direct evidence that
was ordered or recognized by the representative, it is expected to attempt to prove Lee's charges based on indirect facts and circumstantial facts.

The allegations were made public when Cho Myung-hyun, a former official at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, revealed it, and in August last year, Cho reported to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, asking them to investigate former CEO Lee's instructions on the use of corporate cards and acquiescence.

The Suwon District Prosecutors' Office has then taken over the case of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's transfer to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, judging that there is a possibility that CEO Lee knew his spouse's misappropriation of corporate cards.
