Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo said he will put priority on restoring the original form through thorough examination of the first building.

It then announced that it would stop attracting the country's first Starbucks reserve roastery store, which has been pursued so far.

It takes at least two years for Starbucks to make a final decision, and the expansion of its roastery stores has been suspended due to a decrease in sales.

The mayor said commercial facilities are needed to help efficiently utilize the building and revitalize the economy of the original city center, adding that the first-floor entry facility will be considered with all possibilities open.

The Daejeonjeon Hall was built in 1937 during the Japanese colonial period and was used as the first city hall in Daejeon after liberation.

Daejeon City purchased the building in May as it was on the verge of demolition after ownership was transferred to the private sector, and it will be opened in 2027 after restoration work.
