While demand for electricity is soaring due to the expansion of artificial intelligence and electric vehicles, the pace of transmission network construction is rarely fast, according to a survey.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Sustainable Growth Initiative said the country's largest electricity demand was 94 GW last year, up 98% for the first time in 20 years, and power generation facility capacity also increased 154% over the same period, but transmission facilities grew only 26% over the same period.

It also pointed out that the recent delays in transmission network construction projects by more than five to six years on average have raised the risk of not meeting electricity demand.
